Armstrong was a drummer in 8 different bands. Larry Rai and the Red Tops in the mid-sixties was the first. Their first venue was a laundromat in Atlantic. The Fortes was the best known performing in nine midwestern states.
Ray was inducted into the Iowa Rock & Roll Association three times, each with a different band.
