Thirteen individuals from the student ministry at the Calvary Christian Church in Bellevue and Papillion, Nebraska calling themselves the “Destination Unknown Crew” visited us without warning on June 7th, 2016.

These individuals are committed to a week of their summer to serve wherever they might land.  They choose their direction of travel from one hat and the distance from another.  This morning they ended up at the American Legion Memorial Building.

They wanted to help us.  The first thing that came to mind was painting the exterior fire escape steps from the Drill Floor.  These steps had not been painted since at least 1987 and were in bad need of a new coat of paint.

A crew of four started work on the steps and others started moving a large pile of Christmas lights from the Drill floor in preparation for storage at the City Street Department.  The balance of the “DU Crew” dispersed through-out the city working at the YMCA and Cass County Community Center.

At the end of the day, we had a beautifully painted fire escape and a huge pile of Christmas lights in the garage.

Their plan was to spend the night here and then see where they might be tomorrow – and what they might be doing.  We wish them the best with their travels and want them to know that we will always remember why our steps look so beautiful!  Thank you, Calvary Christian Church:  DU Crew and may God bless you.
